ASHISH PILLAI

Bharat Muni is considered as the Guru of Indian Classical Dances. These dances are mostly based on Hindu religious stories and legends. Our great Gurus of these traditional dances preserved it and took it out from the confinement of the temples and brought it to the masses. Here in Indore, a young artist Ashish Pillai is one of the fortunates who has inherited this tradition and playing a vital role in preserving the great Indian dance culture. He is bestowed with a complete passion for dance and has started learning basics of Bharata Natyam at the age of 6 from his father Shri Vijayan Pillai.

Ashish also learned Mohini Attam under the able guidance of his grand mother Guru Smt. Venmani Vimala Devi and proved his talent by performing at various platforms.

He is also getting training in Kathak Dance since last 2 years from Kathak maestros Smt. Ragini Makhar of Lucknow Gharana and also a gold medalist from DAVV & Khairagarh University.

Ashish is known for his writing skills too. Around 60/65 poems have written and many of his poems and articles were published in daily News paper Free Press. One of his poems was acknowledged by ‘Scholastics’

In a short span of time Ashish has been emerged as a twinkle star of Indian Classical dance and achieved his own place.

ACHIEVEMENTS & PROGRAMMES

- Attended Workshops conducted by Guru Smt. Shama Bhatte & Pt, Suresh Tawalkar
- Won many National level Classical/Semi-classical dance competitions viz. Akhil Bhartiya Sanskrutik Sangh Pune’s Multilingual Dance/Drama compn. & National Harmony ‘Bhav, Raag, Taal’ festival etc.
- Won more than 50 Inter state/Inter School dance competitions eg. Hindustan Times, Lions Club, Maharashtra Sahitya Sabha, Malwa Kala Academy etc.
- Performed in T.V. shows – ETV MP, ETV UP, OTG, Surya T.V., RAJ TV& BTV.
- Performed 4 hours continually for ‘Nrityanjali’ at St. Paul School.
- Performed various charity shows for the destitute and downtrodden at several places in M.P.

In order to put his best efforts to acquire knowledge from the Gurus of Indian Classical Dances and work for realization and upliftment of Indian tradition with sincerity, devotion and hard work , he formed a Dance Troup named ‘Dhrupad Dance Troup’ in 2007.
